First time at Stowe, last time at Stowe. To get to main lift you take the Olympic challenge and walk up the hill at an 85 degree angle, decided I didn’t want to attempt so headed to stairs. Stopped to get a map, no go, use your app on your phone. I chose not to bring my phone, I’d be the one to drop it in the powder on a double black. Headed to negotiate the unshoveled stairs, ok, I’ll get there eventually. Lift to my left running and seats being brushed off, it’s 8:50. Do I wait or climb the next incline to the main lift. Glad I made that decision since they’re just messing with you, lift never opened, glad I didn’t wait. Heading to the open lift, no entrance on this side, probably 100+ feet more to the opening and then head back another 100ft to wait in line- the line management was super. Vail, if you have any say, add a set of stairs right of the lodge near the parking lot. I prefer not to get up a sweat even before I get to the lift. Granted, I’m over 60 and an average skier , I’ll stick to Okemo, Sunapee and Mt Snow.. just saying... Full Review

Overall, the conditions were 3 times better than Killington with plenty of natural snow, however, the lift lines were long at times. I totally recommend it to anyone who wants to have a winter getaway at a nice resort with great skiing. Great lodging with an awesome town with many great dining choices and more. ... Full Review

Maybe it's a Vermont thing. Both Stowe and Killington hills drive me nuts. Killington lift takes you ALMOST to the top. WTF???? Stowe parking is below ground level. With the best parkin spot on the hill, we still had to walk up 75ft up an embankment. WTF?? Also, to get from spruce peak to Meadows quad, you have a choice of Black diamond OR walk 1,000 ft across base camp road and then at the end, you now have a 50ft hill to climb. sorry to gripe but I just don't see those deficiencies in other resorts. Perhaps they're there in some locations, but still....... Full Review

I moved to NY recently and decided to give it a try to the NE skiing. This may have been a bad week to come as they have not have snow for few days, instead they had rain and low temperatures. This has been the most ice skiing I have ever done, despite some grooming it felt as no grooming at all, everybody was sliding on the slopes, even the best skiers were struggling here. With limited runs opened it felt crowded and sincerely unsafe as too many skiers of different levels were going down on the limited and ice open runs. Despite these poor conditions, still the price was similar to the best ski places in Colorado but the experience was disappointing. We cut our ski trip two days short because of the extremely ice and unsafe conditions. Luckily they have a good return policy and they reimbursed our money. It may be that I got the worse of it this week but in the future I will not return unless that we know that they have a lot of fresh snow and drive for the weekend. I will not commit to coming here weeks or months in advance. ... Full Review

Good place to ski. But drop off people and equipment find parking and walk back takes about half an hour. Also a lot of uphill walk on snow to lifts. Feel like spending more time driving and walking than skiing. Good for young. Moot good for old people.... Full Review

Well, it hurts me to only give Stowe an average rating, but that is about best I can do after my recent visit. I had expected some ice based, on recent warmup, followed by a big chill, so I had my edges done that morning. That did very little to improve my experience, so I either: A) don't know how to carve an edge any longer B) my edges weren't tuned that great C) the trails could have been better groomed Since, I think I can still carve an edge, I'd have to go with combination of B & C. Since there weren't a ton of trails open, they should have been able to do a better job with grooming. Also, the price of lift ticket for this time of year, for what they were offering, was ridiculous. My final complaint is that they still have not added a magic carpet, or redesigned the Mansfield base lodge, so that you don't have to climb a hill, or stairs, every time head out to ski again. I love the old feel of Mansfield Lodge and prefer they keep that rustic feel, but as I get older, the trek back to lifts from the lodge has become a drag. All that said, Stowe still one of my east coast favorites, and I'll be back....hopefully with better conditions.... Full Review
