I first skied Massanutten in the late 80's. Nice party at the lodge, crowded, horrible skiing at a small resort. I skied over over the world for the next 30 years but settled in Virginia. After realizing that I would never own a ski home in the Rockies, I built a house at Massanutten in 2014 and have experienced the growth. New Basecamp Bar in 2016 (a glass enclosed tent structure). New waterline in 2019 that greatly increased snowmaking capacity. In 2022 new Mueller's Mile (Blue) trail off the peak chair. In 2023 new high speed detachable quad for the Peak chair, new expert trail under the Peak chair, new connector trail between the peak and the ridge lifts. If you haven't skied Massanutten in the past year or two you owe it another chance. BTW- Genesee drafts are $3 all day everyday at Basecamp and Elevations Lounge. New "Bourbon Bar" in the ski lodge opened this season. Reasonable season pass rates, lots of discounts for seniors, military, property owners and students. It isn't Telluride or Jackson Hole but it is still fun for a weekend and it is all Interstate and/or 4 lane US highway from DC right up to the resort. Plus Harrisonburg is 20 min away and has all the basics you could want (Walmart, Costco, restaurants, mall, bars, etc.).
So close to DC
Short season

Every thing everything is very very expensive here! I can’t believe how much they charge people here for ski and tubing! Very expensive resort

I have no idea why you would ever drive here to ski. On a normal winter it seems like they maybe have 1 or 2 out of their intermediate to “expert” slopes open. The weather here isn’t much colder than it is anywhere else so they pretty much get zero natural snow and when they are fortunate to get cold enough weather to blow it they make no effort. On top of that it’s 85 dollars for a lift ticket on a weekend. 85 dollars for one slope. You can ski for cheaper in Utah. They should go to jail for that kind of robbery. The only good thing is the lift lines or short, probably because no one wants to come here. I have no idea how they have operated a ski resort this long, if this continues I doubt they will be in business much longer.
Short lift lines. Nice lodge
Limited terrain, expensive, bad snow

Had a great time of end of season skiing this past Thursday. Great conditions for this time of year, no lift lines at all!! There are 2 magic carpet rides for beginners - great for my daughter who is learning, plus intermediate and advanced slopes. The resort has added several amenities since we last came: at least 2 rec centers, restaurants, shops, tubing. There are a variety of lodging options; really a great place for a mountain vacation in Virginia.

Overall decent experience, any experienced skier going here should have their expectations tempered. it is small and there are zero ‘expert’ runs, but it’s a good quick fix when needed. Since it’s the south and in the valley the snow conditions vary greatly. It is overpriced, although i went on monday night when they have a great discount deal.. otherwise id be very hard pressed to pay any regular admission when i could easily go to Wintergreeen or drive 3 hours to Snowshoe. They should really reduce their prices for sure.
Intermediate friendly, monday night madness
Short runs, snow conditions vary

Fourth year in a row I’ve went and each year it gets worse and worse. And this year was my last. More than half the slopes are closed the ones that are open are majority green and are basically flat. The ONE blue one is always icy and patchy and the ONE black diamond they had was ok but not worth full price for less than half a mountain and only 2 slopes if you actually know what you’re doing. Staff is extremely cheap and it takes a minimum of 45 mins to get to a skiable area if you’re anything but learning because you have to use the same lifts the people that aren’t leaving must use which means stopping every 3 feet for long periods of time.
Good view at the top
Rarely open all slopes. More often than not it’s icy. Lifts are annoying

They do a great job of making snow here and have some fun runs for intermediate and expert skiers. Prices are in line with most East Coast places, but definitely a bit expensive on the weekend, but at least on the weekend you can grab a reasonable lunch at the mid mountain grill. I've skied here dozens of times with family and will continue to come back.
Long runs, short lines to expert terrain
Family lifts are slow, weather conditions

I was not a fan of this mountain in the slightest. We sacrificed quality for convenience/location.... Never will I make the same mistake again. The runs are short, the lifts are slooooww, the snow was lacking mid-winter, the lines were long, the lodge was unappealing, the prices were steep for the product and half of the difficult runs (if you can even call them that) were either blasting snow so much you couldn't enjoy the ride or they were simply closed. Overall very negative experience. I am going back to the area this winter to relax in a cabin but I do NOT plan on buying a lift pass. Maybe I'll just tube... le sigh.
uhhh proximity?
Everything else

Great resort for beginners or people who want to enjoy a relaxing day on the mountain. Expert skiers looking for a challenge will probably get bored relatively quickly.
Good slopes for just cruising; good place to learn to ski or snowboard; good quality, consistent snow
Not many slopes; 3 black diamond slopes but usually only 2 are open
