  • Swiss Snow Cover "Above Average"

    Swiss resorts seem to be faring the best from the current "Challenging" conditions in the Alps. Having the highest ski slopes in Europe is certainly a help with Zermatt, open 365 days a year thanks to its glacier, reporting snow depths 20-30% above average for this time of year, more than half the slopes open and runs right down to resort.

    Despite a serious snowfall last weekend, many parts of the Alps are still suffering from the worst early seasons for coverage in more than a decade. Temperatures in to early December were the warmest ever recorded making snowmaking impossible and even putting glacier ski areas, usually a safe bet whatever the snow cover at lower elevations, out of action.
