Pyrenees Ski Resorts

As the natural boundary from the Atlantic ocean to the Mediterranean sea, the Pyrenees stretch for 420 kilometres and offer beautiful scenery and wildlife. The thirty-eight stations of the range offer particularly relaxing breaks; in a few of the resorts you can mix up the pleasures of skiing with that of relaxing in one of the many health spas. The Pyrenees has grown its reputation as the place to be to mix the pleasures of relaxation and skiing; take a trip to spa to revitalise after a day on the slopes! Some of the spa resorts include: Ax-les-Thermes, Luchon, Vallée du Louron, Cauterets and also Saint-Lary.

The Pyrenean Mountains are lower than their big sisters in the Alps, but they are better preserved and offer a rich diversity of flora and fauna.
The Pyrenees mountain range partially covers six of the French departments: Pyrenees-Atlantiques, Hautes-Pyrenees, Haute-Garonne, Ariege, Aude and Pyrenees Orientales.

The highest peak in the Pyrenees is the Aneto located on the Spanish side, which rises up to 3404 meters. There are also some groups of mountains and famous peaks such as the Corbières Massif which rises up to 1,230 meters and several other notable peaks such as the Pic du Midi (2877 m) and also the Ossau (2,885 m).

The Pyrenees has numerous resorts throughout the region, some higher and some lower in altitude. Some are made up of several smaller resorts, for example the ‘Domaine du Tourmalet’ which is composed of two resorts, Barèges and La Mongie. This is the largest ski resort in the Pyrenees with 69 trails and 43 lifts. The resort has around 100 kilometres of slopes and peaks that go up to 2,500 meters. Other large and medium-sized resorts are those of Les Angles, Luz-Ardiden, Peyragudes, Piau-Engaly, Font-Romeu and Ax-3. For those specialist free riders, the Pic du Midi is a great place to ‘shread’, offering an exceptional and unique descent of the Pyrenees.
