Ruka is a self contained village resort at the foot of one 'hill'. It is lower than the Alps because snow falls well below treeline due to being so far North. I took my children for their fist ski holiday at ages 9 and 10 and this was the best choice I could have made. they loved it and I got my legs back after a few years out. Queues are light to zero. Accommodation is all luxury compared to France.
We're going back, same holiday, same HT week same company (crystal) £6k HB with all the hire and lessons for two kids.
20 min transfer from airport is unbeatable. Take thermals but it isn't as bad as you may fear. 5 stars for newbies and returners with kids.
