I went here in the middle of March with three mates and we were blessed with fantastic weather which enabled me to get so cracking photos of the spectacular views, especially from the top of Mt Joux. Don't worry about the altitude, there was enough snow in in a warm mid March. The advantage was that in the town there was no snow at all, so getting about is easy, we only hit the snow at the top of the cable car run to the bottom of Bettix. From here you get another gondola to Mt Arbois area from where you can go pretty much anywhere you want. The choice of places to ski is staggering as is the view from here across the valley to the runs on the mountains the other side. You can get food and drink all over the mountains but it is a bit expensive (five euros for a small gatorade!). As far as skiing and snowboarding goes, it is a great resort, you can literally cover dozens of miles in a day at various parts of various difficulties. I would totally recommend this place for it skiing. It's only just over an hour from Geneva airport too, which is very good, a lot of resorts have massive transfer times. They even run a free bus service through the town to take you to the bottom of the cable car run (Telecabine'), St Gervais is a beautiful town, very quite and very clean. The people were very friendly as well. The only down side is the lack of places to eat and drink. This is not a place for youngster looking to go out on the lash and on the pull in the evenings!! Eateries are very limited. There was a nice shop called The Casino to get your provisions if you are self catering like we were so because of this it would get four stars from me overall but as a skiing resort I would give it five stars. We all had a wonderful time and would not hesitate in recommending this to anyone no matter what level of skier you are. Also as you are taken to the snow the resort is a fair bit warmer than many other would be. We had temperatures regularly well into double figures. They do have places to stay on the mountains as well if you are one of those that must ski to your front door! Overall as I said, a fantastic place to go and it didn't cost that much either.
