I agree with the other Reviews here. We found St Gervais by luck really, but what a find. It is just about perfect for families and beginner to very good intermediate skiers. We went to Morzine Les Gets and Avoriaz area at Christmas 2010 with friends but are heading back to St Gervais at half term 2011. Morzine is ok if you like crowded lifts and if you are an advanced skier it has more to do. But for everyone else it's just expensive and crowded like so many of the more fashionable and well known resorts. Our group has a mixture of very advanced (former ski instructor), mid teens skiing reds and blacks in and out of the trees with their hair on fire and a couple of intermediates that like pootling down blues and drinking Vin Chaud. But it was good when the teens were beginners as well. St Gervais or should I say St Gervais St Nicolas, Megeve and Rochebrune which you access from St Gervais on the Mont Blanc Evasion ski pass keeps us all happy all day and all week. We are heading back for our fourth year and we love it. If however you are more into apres ski than skiing it's not that sort of place. It has nice bars and restaurants but there is no club scene or for that matter drunk people eating slices of pizza in amongst piles of litter and smoking waccy baccy on the streets. And consequently they aren't on the St Gervais slopes either. So the "drawback" of not having a wild apres ski scene is actually a benefit if you are taking your family and want lots of good skiing for all and an excellent ski school set up without the crowds, the expense and the aggro of somewhere like Morzine.
