As the world’s most elite athletes compete in Olympic Winter Games, you can participate in your own competition of sorts. We challenge you to invent your own perfect day in New York’s famous Olympic town, Lake Placid! And we all know all perfect days include some mountain time, gliding over corduroy or getting in some fresh powder. Sure, summer is awesome, with refreshing lakes and stunning green scenery, but winter drapes an irresistible charm over the entire landscape. Part of that charm is found on the totally real and down-to-earth slopes of Whiteface Mountain. Trust us, you don’t want to just be a spectator this winter!

Legendary Mountain

What better place to get close to the action than Whiteface Mountain. This legendary mountain boasts the greatest vertical drop in the East, but you don’t have to tackle double black diamonds to experience some of the best skiing and riding in New York state. Everyone from the most experienced to beginners will find suitable terrain — in fact, there are almost 300 skiable acres. New this winter, there are lots of improvements to the resort. Lifts are upgraded to provide faster travel uphill, a new lodge with modern amenities is open for a midday break, and snowmaking improvements help make this a can’t-miss mountain.

Lake Placid Has A Lot To Offer

But your winter getaway doesn’t need to be entirely at Whiteface. Lake Placid has a lot to offer après. A Main Street packed with shops, 5-star dining, and access to 6-million acres of outdoor adventure awaits. Experience classic winter activities with a Lake Placid twist: ride a toboggan chute onto a frozen lake, go for a dog sled ride with the High Peaks in the background, or warm up with a hot chocolate next to a fire. In between a trip to Whiteface and relaxing downtown, don’t forget to check out other Olympic venues where you can ice skate, cross-country ski, or even bobsled.

The best part about Lake Placid is there are so many opportunities for fun. Honestly, if they gave out gold medals for winter vacations, Lake Placid would win them all. Make sure you have the coolest winter yet by inventing your own perfect winter getaway in Lake Placid this season!
