[R264R, Mt. Ashland] cranked up its lifts for skiing and snowboarding Dec. 17 to the delight of southern Oregon skiers and riders.

The resort launched its season following a lineup of storms that brought enough snow to pop the slopes open. "Early season conditions will exist, and we encourage people to use caution until our coverage becomes more substantial," said Kim Clark, general manager for Mt. Ashland.

Mt. Ashland plans to operate 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily through the holidays until Jan. 4. Regular five-day-per-week operations commence after the holidays when the resort resumes its Thursday through Monday schedule. Twilight skiing, which runs Thursday and Friday evenings from 3 to 9 p.m., will begin Jan. 7 and finish March 12.

The resort also welcomes a new shuttle service this winter run by Ashland Mountain Adventures. The shuttle, which services the Ashland and Medford areas, plans to pick up riders at most of the stops that the ski bus used to frequent. Stops include Joe's, Holiday Inn in Medford, and the Plaza in Ashland. Riders also can hop on at the company's office in Ashland.

Reservations are required for the new shuttle service, which uses 14-passenger vans outfitted with racks for skis and snowboards. A round trip ride costs $15 per person. A one-way ride costs $8 per person. Punch cards for 10 shuttles are also available for $120.
