Scandinavia's leading resort of [R2697R, Åre] in Sweden is celebrating 100 years as a ski destination this winter, and has launched a number of special price deals for British customers to celebrate.

A new cross-border coach transfer from Trondheim Airport Vaernes costing €17 (£15) per person starts this season, making it easier than ever for UK visitors to reach Åre ( - Swedish only). The Skybus transfers will connect with Norwegian's flights from London Stansted, which start from £51.30 one-way including taxes making it cheaper than ever to reach the resort independently.

Other money saving initiatives include free childminding at day care for the children of parents who book themselves into the resort's ski school.

Åre (pronounced 'Oar-er') and its ski area is large by any standards - with a challenging vertical for a part of the European continent not famed for its high mountains, and there are over 44 lifts to get you up it. From the top there are spectacular views across the huge frozen lake beside the resort. There are other unique advantages - the long season for example, from late November well into May.

If you like to communicate in English you'll find 96 percent of the people in the resort are fluent in it. Most of all there is the good-natured friendliness of the Swedes, who seem to share some natural heritage of humour and the same concept of what's fun with the British, the Danish, and the Dutch.
