[R215R, Lookout Pass] usually aims to open by Thanksgiving. But generous snowstorms in early November blanketing the Bitterroot Mountains allowed the ski area perched on the Idaho-Montana state line to open early.

"Regional skiers and riders are really excited that we kicked off early!" Phil Edholm, President and CEO of Lookout Pass Ski and Recreation Area told OnTheSnow.com. "We're known to be the first to open in the area in most years."

Lookout Pass opened Nov. 13, almost two weeks before their targeted Thanksgiving opening and just a few days shy of the resort's earliest opening in the last 10 years on Nov. 9. The ski area's location on the Idaho-Montana border attracted skiers and riders from both states, plus nearby Washington on opening day, which offered eight runs off Chair 1 and rails in the Exit 0 terrain park.

The resort plans to go into their regular season schedule of Thursday through Monday operation by Thanksgiving. Lookout Pass will be open Wednesdays in January and February, plus seven days per week during Christmas vacation.

Lookout Pass is located right on I-90 at the crest of the Bitterroot Mountains, a sub range of the Northern Rockies. "We're blessed with early snow, excellent snow quality, and it usually keeps on coming!" added Edholm.
