The Matterhorn has made it through to the final round of the ‘New7Wonders of Nature' competition.

The Official New7Wonders of the World have been elected by more than 100 million votes to represent global heritage throughout history.

Voting has been going on for more than two years, with almost 500 landscapes, parks, and lakes being nominated. After several rounds of voting, the Matterhorn is the only Swiss natural wonder that has reached this stage.

The Matterhorn recently won the Internet vote in the ‘Mountains' category, and then passed a selection process by an international group if experts who evaluated the candidates.

The third phase of the New7Wonders of Nature is now underway. It is now a choice between the 28 finalists, four similar natural wonders in seven categories.

Among the 28 finalists are Kilimanjaro, Table Mountain, Tushan, the Grand Canyon, and Vesuvius. You can vote for the Matterhorn or one of the other contenders at

Voting will continue throughout 2010 and into 2011. The New7Wonders World Tour will aim to visit each of the Finalists to allow them to present themselves to the voters across the globe. The seven winners will be presented in 2011.
