New Zealand Areas Look to Mid-June Openers
What's in a name? A lot, apparently, as news arrives that Porter Heights has been acquired by a consortium of local Christchurch businessmen backed by some solid Australian investment and re-named. From now on, it's just "Porters."
Christchurch's closest ski field, Porters has long been a popular choice for families, drawn by the child-friendly learner slopes and safe skiing. But the new owners are already hinting at improvements designed to make the Porters experience even better.
The Remarkables hired American terrain park consulting company Snow Park Technologies to redesign their terrain park in time for their June 23 projected opening.
Freestylers will find a redeveloped and enlarged Terrain Park with two 30m wide, benched jump and rail lines – twice the size of last year's Up & Go Terrain Park.
Ski Area Manager for The Remarkables Hamish McCrostie says all the new work will attract both young and old freestylers and provide great spectator action.
