MSP Films' new release, IN DEEP: The Skiing Experience, promises a fresh approach to what is normally shown pre-season ski audiences. Teton Gravity Research's latest was jibbing, big mountain jibbing, and more jibbing with gritty footage of newbies on the ski scene like Sammy Carlson, Callum Pettit, Cody Townsend and Utah's Rachael Burks.

Unfortunately, the flick didn't play well as a travelogue and, therefore, missed the mark in celebrating the deep snow of the Wasatch Front. A few times you would see shots of Salt Lake's Interstate, implying we were heading to some epic powder scenes but after a couple of lines, we were suddenly transported to some place in Alaska. The film jumped back and forth, often forgetting to clue the audience in on who we were watching and where they were skiing.

MSP's film was shot in HD on location at Squaw Valley, Keystone, British Columbia, Italy, Alaska, Sweden, and more. It will also feature Utah's Shane McConkey in a tribute segment highlights his pro-ski career. McConkey died in a BASE jumping accident while filming for MSP last season  There's even a contest to see who can dress up as the best Saucer Boy. The first screening will be at Jeanne Wagner Theatre in Salt Lake City, Oct. 7, and in Park City at Jim Santy Auditorium, Oct. 9-11. Tickets are $12.

Warren Miller's Dynasty kicks off your winter sports season for the 60th year in a row. It plays at Abravanel Hall in Salt Lake City, Oct. 16-17, and the Eccles Center in Park City, Oct. 23-24. The film's director and producer Max Bervy said, "Dynasty reveals the past, present, and future of winter sports. It is a film that gathers the generations under one roof, from the Crist family patriarch to Daron Rahlves, and the explosion of young terrain-park talent they've inspired."

Ski Utah didn't sponsor a segment in the movie unlike in years past so you won't see those epic deep powder moments but you can still be swept away by this anniversary edition as they venture to China, Alaska, Norway, and British Columbia. Jonny Mosley will narrate the flim.
