Steamboat Ski Resort has surpassed 100 inches of snow for the month of December alone. It's just the sixth time that has happened in the past 29 years. The snow started slowly for Steamboat, and the resort had to put off their scheduled Thanksgiving week opening until the following week. But now, catch up in the month of December has been great. "Steamboat is enjoying some of the best snow in the Rocky Mountains, with one of the largest mid-mountain bases of any major Colorado destination resort," said Chris Diamond, president and chief operating officer. Steamboat had more than four feet of snow in one week alone in December. Powderhounds are happy with over 2,800 acres of skiing and riding available. There is more good news for Steamboat visitors and residents. United Express will launch new year-round, all-jet nonstop service, operated by SkyWest Airlines, from Denver International Airport into Steamboat's airport in the nearby town of Hayden, starting in April. It's an increase of 33 percent for Steamboat travelers in the spring, summer and fall time frames, and it's on a jet, with three flights a day. There are currently at least five flights a day on United, but they are smaller planes. The jet service will ramp it up. Thanks to Steamboat's Larry Pierce for another amazing powder shot.
