A sure sign for eastern Ontario snowsports enthusiasts that winter isn't far off is the Ottawa Ski, Snowboard & Travel Show, which takes place at the end of the month, Oct. 29-30.

The show has been reduced from three to two days this year. Show hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday. Admission is free, and everything takes place under one roof at the Ottawa Civic Center in Lansdowne Park. Over 10,000 people have attended in previous years.

There will be mountain resorts from across the US and Canada, ski travel wholesalers, equipment manufacturers and winter wear retailers. Special only-at-show pricing on vacation packages, ski pass promotions and multi-resort value passes will be available.

Whether you're a double-diamond skier, backcountry rider or just looking to take up the sport, this is Ottawa's largest showcase of ski and snowboard equipment, clothing, lifestyle information and related products and services. Look for lots of special show offers.

Free seminars are set to take place both days. Seminars in past years covered alpine ski tuning, cross country waxing techniques, ski boot selecting, and equipment innovations by manufacturing representatives.

Ottawa is within a half-day drive from major ski resorts. Exhibitors at past events have included major resorts from the Laurentians, Quebec City region, Eastern Townships, Western Canada, Vermont, Maine, New Hampshire, New York and Colorado, as well as tour operators representing destinations in Europe.
