The Raven Golf Course (304-572-6500)is West Virginia's only true mountain golf course, one that takes advantage of the natural beauty and aesthetics of the surrounding Allegheny Mountain Range. In 1993, Gary Player and his design team chose the Pocahontas County location as the site for what is now one of the finest mountain golf courses in the entire country. Nestled at the base of the mountain the terrain is so varied, the front and back nine almost look like two separate courses. The 7,000-yard championship course is regarded as challenging, yet fair, and ranks among the top courses in the nation. Racen was named "Golfweek" Magazine's Top 100 Modern Golf Courses, and also the "Top Public Access Golf Course in West Virginia for 2005." This marked the first time in its history the magazine ranked the same course number one four straight years. In 2007 GolfWeek Magazine ranked the Raven Golf Club the "#18 Resort Course in the Nation." Amenities include a full-service clubhouse and golf shop, restaurant and bar. In addition, the facility has a comprehensive learning and performance center.
