Christmas is coming early for Californians with lots of new terrain in the Tahoe area opening ahead of schedule. Heavenly Mountain Resort, Kirkwood Mountain Resort, and Northstar California Resort will continue to open additional terrain prior to the weekend thanks to each resort receiving more than 4-feet of snow in December alone, with Kirkwood receiving more than 6-feet of snow this month. Heavenly will open the California side of the resort on Wednesday, Kirkwood plans to open 100% of skiable terrain beginning Friday, and Northstar plans to add additional terrain on Mt. Pluto.
Keep in mind that all projected terrain expansions are subject to change. Keep an eye on the individual resort websites for the most current updates.

California is Heavenly

On Wednesday, Heavenly opened the California Lodge base area ahead of schedule, as well as additional terrain and chairlifts. With that, the resort now has more than 50 open trails on more than 1,200 skiable acres. Skiers and riders now have access to terrain off of the Canyon Express, Sky Express, Powderbowl Express, and Patsy’s chairlifts. Heavenly’s Aerial Tramway and Gunbarrel Express also opened on Wednesday, providing guests uphill and download access as there will be no skiing or snowboarding access to the base of California Lodge. The resort has received 109-inches of snow so far this season, and now is offering skier services from Heavenly Village, Stagecoach Lodge, and California Lodge.

100% Send at Kirkwood

On Friday, Kirkwood plans to open the entire mountain and potentially be the first resort in the Tahoe Basin to offer access to 100% of skiable terrain. Kirkwood currently has all terrain on the front-side of the resort open, including famed terrain off Chair 10 with access to the Wall and the family-focused Timber Creek base area. On Friday, the resort will open back-side terrain and the popular Devil’s Corral area. Kirkwood has received more than 10-feet of snow this season, including more than 6-feet of snow to start the month of December, and leads the way for snowfall at California resorts with a total of 125-inches for the season.

True North

Northstar currently has 51 open trails on more than 1,100 skiable acres and has been consistently expanding terrain to begin the season, including top-of-mountain access via the Comstock Express. On Friday, the resort plans to open additional terrain via the Tahoe Zephyr Express chairlift and the resort’s Cross-Country, Telemark and Snowshoe Center. Northstar Terrain Parks currently has more than 20 rail features and five jumps across Pinball and Pipeline. The resort has received 110-inches of snow this season and will continue to open additional terrain as soon as safe and ready to do so.
