Snow is melting in the lowlands, but remains sufficient on the ski slopes to support skiing and riding into April.

At least that's the hope at [R497R, Whiteface], where two of the prime events of spring are planned for the end of this month and early next.

The Whiteface Mini Park Meltdown, March 28, is designed to allow participants to showcase their stuff in the terrain park. Cost is $10 per person, and competitors may sign up at the Guest Services Desk the day of competition.

April features the annual Apple Butter Open Moguls Competition April 4, while pond skimming takes place April 11. Skiers and riders are invited to participate in the yearly attempt to cross the pond and stay dry.

We say, "Bonne chance."

The fun begins at high noon outside the base lodge, and prizes will be given for Longest Distance, Biggest and Best Splash, Best Costume, and more.

Whiteface is planning on ending this year's ski and ride season Easter, April 12, conditions permitting. The mountain will host its annual non-denominational Easter service in the morning, followed by a breakfast buffet, an Easter egg hunt with over 2,000 eggs, and Cloudsplitter scenic gondola rides.

As ever at this time of year, check before setting out.
