If you haven’t heard of Champagne Powder® snow, it’s time we talked geography. Steamboat’s uniquely light, fluffy snow starts as clouds and moisture way out in the Pacific. But before it gets to northern Colorado, it has to first pass over the Mojave Desert, which sucks moisture out of those clouds. By the time snow starts blanketing the mountains of Steamboat, it’s so consistently feathery and dry that it eventually earned its very own name—Champagne Powder® snow. And many claim it’s some of the best snow on the planet.

With plenty of that powder hitting Steamboat, it’s not too late to plan an escape to this genuine Colorado ski getaway. As many fans will tell you, Champagne Powder® snow is one big reason to love the ’Boat. But it’s not the only one.

Growing from one warming hut and two lifts back in the early 1960s to one of the country’s biggest ski resorts today—with 165 trails spread across six peaks overlooking the beautiful Yampa Valley—Steamboat has managed to keep a firm grip on its heritage, its authenticity and its friendly Colorado vibe. Not surprising, since ranchers always have firm grips.

So while you can enjoy all the variety and amenities of a world-class ski resort, not to mention all that glorious new light, fluffy pow, you can also enjoy the feeling of being welcomed by locals who are genuinely happy to see you. Whether that’s taking a magical sleigh ride to a mountaintop dinner under Colorado stars, snowshoeing through the hush of snow-blanketed woods, strolling down our quaint main street or just settling into our naturally rejuvenating hot springs at the end of a long, blissful day of skiing and riding, Steamboat seems to have it all.

It all creates a feeling that takes you far away from wherever you are. But luckily, Steamboat is also remarkably easy to get to, with nonstop and easy connecting flights nationwide and great deals.
