Calling all newbies, never-evers, first-timers, greenhorns and rookies—January is “Learn to Ski & Snowboard Month.” Special programs, lessons, offers and events aimed at bringing fresh faces into the sport and developing ski and ride fundamentals are being offered at resorts across the country.

During the month of January, adult and child beginner packages often include some sort of lesson package, ski or snowboard rental and day lift ticket. Pricing and age ranges vary by resort.

Programs & Events

FREE4KIDS: Thanks to "Passport Programs," elementary age kids can get involved with skiing and snowboarding during the month of January for dirt cheap. While programs do vary, once a passport is purchased, kids can usually ski or snowboard for free at participating resorts. Currently, 10 states participate in the program, giving kids in the fourth, fifth and sixth grade slope access on the cheap. See a full list of Passport Program offers here.

#firstdayfaces: Show off your first day on the slops by sharing your photo on social media with #firstdayfaces and enter to win a variety of prizes, including $250 gift certificates or gift vouchers.

Bring a Friend: The "Bring a Friend Challenge" runs from Jan. 5 to Feb. 28, 2018. The rules are simple: "Anyone who invites and helps sign up newcomers to beginner ski or snowboard lessons from professional instructors is eligibile to win prizes in the Bring a Friend Challenge."
