October is a special time of year for Colorado skiers and riders as they eagerly watch resort webcams along the I-70 corridor in anticipation of scoring their first early-season turns. Every fall, Arapahoe Basin and Loveland Ski Area fire up their snowmaking guns in an effort to claim bragging rights as Colorado's (and often North America's) first ski area to open. The friendly competition is usually close, sometimes resulting in a stalemate, as these two high-elevation resorts are positioned within a few miles of each other.  

This year's race to open looks to be close as well, and with Arapahoe Basin's opening date set for Oct. 13, the pressure is on Loveland to follow suit. See the infographic below for a historical look at these two resorts’ opening dates over the last 15 years.
