The storm track continues to favor the West Coast for the largest storm systems. That means a continuation of heavy snow at the ski areas in California. In contrast, warmer air continues to flood the Northeast with rain/snow or just plain rain in the forecast at the ski areas this weekend.

Northeast: There are two different storm systems between Thursday and Monday. Both look rather warm with more rain than snow. The ski areas best positioned are in northern Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine. The first storm affects the area on Thursday continuing into Friday morning, and the second storm system hits on Monday.

California: Once again this is the place to be. Three different storms systems are coming down the pipeline between Thursday and Monday. The first storm system on Thursday looks rather warm and may force the snow level up pretty high. That snow level will drop into Friday as cooler air filters in. Tahoe is in good position from Thursday night to Friday and again Sunday and Monday. Snowfall accumulations look very heavy. Mammoth is once again in the best position. I think we'll see another round of 50-inch storm totals by Monday afternoon; valley flooding possible.

Colorado, Utah and New Mexico: More sun than snow. Snowfall looks pretty light with only one storm system on Saturday through Saturday night (arriving in Utah first). A larger storm system moves in Monday afternoon with better snow chances.

Montana, Wyoming and Idaho: It looks like an active weekend with three different storm systems between Thursday and Monday. Idaho appears to be in the best position for the most total moisture, especially Thursday and Friday. I like Montana and Wyoming on Sunday and Monday.

Pacific Northwest: Active storm track continues with a series of storm systems between Thursday and Monday. The initial surge looks pretty warm with high snow levels and a lot of wind. Heavy snow stays above 4,000 feet through the weekend.

Tomer's Trails: Ski Sun Valley on Friday for new powder, Mammoth on Saturday, Heavenly, Kirkwood or Mammoth on Sunday, and Jackson Hole on Monday.
