Sandpoint, ID – The Board of Directors for Schweitzer Mountain Resort approved plans this week for the construction of a $3.8 million summit lodge at the top of the resort’s Great Escape Quad. “We are excited with the board’s decision to move forward with this project, especially following such a challenging winter,” said Tom Chasse, CEO. “It’s great to have such strong support from our owners, allowing us to improve the resort’s infrastructure and deliver a better experience for our guests.”

The planned 8,000 sq. ft., two-story building was designed by Sandpoint-based architect Tim Boden, engineered by Dave Thompson and will feature stunning 360-degree views.  The main floor of the building will become the new home for Ski Patrol dispatch and provide much needed restrooms on the summit.  The second floor will host a restaurant and full service bar with indoor and outdoor seating for up to 180 people. The building will also offer options for accommodating private functions, including an enhanced venue for top of the mountain weddings.

Schweitzer has chosen Sandpoint-based, Idagon Homes, to manage construction of the project. “Idagon has a solid reputation and has already done some amazing work in the area,” said Bill Williamson, Mountain Operations Director at Schweitzer. “One such project was the recently completed restoration of Sandpoint’s historic train depot. We feel they have the experience and the vision to help us create yet another iconic structure in the Pacific Northwest.”

“The view from the top of the mountain and the feeling you get looking out over the lake is unparalleled. The summit lodge will give us the ability to share that experience,” said Chasse.  “Summer or winter, we think the lodge will become a destination for locals and visitors alike.”

Schweitzer plans to break ground in early July and construction is estimated to be completed by fall 2016.
