Purely a matter of taste – culinary expertise in the World Gourmet Village

Lech Zürs am Arlberg, July 2014

Lech Zürs am Arlberg enjoys a worldwide reputation among winter sports fans. But it's not just ski enthusiasts and snowboarders who make the "pilgrimage" to their Mecca in the Arlberg when the first snows fall. Gourmet travellers are also drawn to this high-altitude Alpine holiday resort. Their goal – to tempt their taste buds and conquer the World Gourmet Village.

The mountain resort with 1,610 inhabitants and the highest density of Gault Millau toques
compared with other locations internationally has made a real name for itself in the last few years among lovers of good food. Whether it's classic Alpine cuisine or a fusion of European and Asian cooking styles, whether a modern interpretation of classic dishes or bold creative experiments – the variety of dishes coming from the kitchens of Lech Zürs could not be more diverse. The linking theme is the highest possible quality.

The region's natural treasures give the cuisine its special character. Up to 200 different flowers, plants and roots grow in an Alpine meadow – an almost endless variety of possible ingredients, whose unadulterated taste has found a unique way into the local kitchens. The high requirement for quality and awareness of the need to treat the resources responsibly are features of the gourmet cuisine in Lech Zürs.

The gourmet critics
from Gault Millau and Falstaff are also full of praise for the modern Alpine gourmet cuisine. "The fact is that there are more and more guests who value Lech and Zürs not just for the ski pistes, but also for the outstanding gastronomy," said Karl Hohenlohe, publisher of the Austrian Gault Millau. Klaus Buttenhauser, his colleague from the VIP Gourmetclub, awarded the resort in Arlberg the title of "World Gourmet Village".

"LöffelWeise Arlberg" – where pleasure-loving palates meet passionate chefs

The "LöffelWeise" (literally "by the spoonful") series of gourmet events in Arlberg invites you for the eighth time to take a culinary tour around Arlberg in 2014/15.  From January to April 2015, the chefs of ten top restaurants in Lech Zürs will be treating gourmets and food connoisseurs to their culinary specialities.  The original idea was to promote exchange and interaction between the chefs from the restaurants in Arlberg. This developed over the years into an international exchange of knowledge between regional chefs and prominent international guest chefs, wine growers, sommeliers and consultants at the highest culinary level.

Each "LöffelWeise" event is always attended by a "celebrity guest". The themed evenings, which take place every Thursday in a different restaurant, offer only the best of the best. Eight course gala menus include champagne aperitif, accompanying wines, dessert wine and coffee.

Detailed information on the "LöffelWeise" events in winter 2014/2015 can be found at www.lech-zuers.at/loeffelweise.
