Whistler Skier Reaches World Cup Podium
The 27-year-old earned $13,370 for her first podium finish and, more importantly, proved she belongs among the world's best skiers. Alpine Canada considered dropping her after she didn't even crack the top 100 in points on the World Cup circuit in 2005-06.
Janyk followed up her breakthrough race with a ninth in the women's Super G Sunday.
"I was shooting for the top of the podium, but Super G is anyone's game," said Janyk. "It's one inspection, one run. I know I'm skiing well though and am right there with the top girls. Next race is mine."
