[R127R, Cypress Mountain] outside Vancouver is scheduled to hold both snowboarding and freestyle skiing events for the upcoming 2010 Olympics. The resort will test drive its new facilities during the Freestyle Skiing FIS World Cup scheduled Feb. 5-7 and the Snowboard FIS World Cup Feb. 12-14.

Not only did Cypress build the new Cypress Creek Lodge, but the resort upgraded its slopes to Olympic caliber venues. Improvements included a new in-ground halfpipe, a full snowmaking system with 35 new guns and new water reservoir, more night lighting, new freestyle aerials and moguls sites, a re-graded parallel giant slalom course, and other modifications to existing runs.

Get a sneak preview of the freestyle skiers vying for slots on the Olympic team as they compete in the World Cup in moguls, aerials, and skier cross. Likewise, halfpipe, parallel giant slalom, and snowboard cross competitions during the Snowboard World Cup will bring on riders who will meet up again during the Olympics.

You can test drive some of the venues yourself to size them up. Some of the freestyle and snowboarding venues are open to the public when they are not in use for training or competitions. The superpipe with 22-foot-high walls is also open to the public when grooming and training schedules permit; so is the freestyle mogul hill.

Locate the snowboard venues adjacent to the Eagle Express Quad Chair. Find the venues for aerials and moguls above the Black Mountain Lodge Grill parking lot.
