Shawnee Pumps It Up, Plants Trees
Shawnee Peak's owner Chet Homer has installed a computer-controlled snowmaking pump system to minimize power consumption and increase capacity by 40 percent during prime snowmaking conditions.
The area also is buying wind power credits to offset 100 percent of its electricity use, and has partnered with The Conservation Fund to plant more than 675 trees to offset all carbon emissions from heating oil, gasoline, and propane use.
Shawnee's 70th season also will begin with a 100-foot-wider "Happiness Is" beginner trail.
