Another ugly day on tap for the Northeast, heavy rain for parts of the West and a few bumps in portions of the Midwest. RC

Quite a mix in store for the region today as rain, snow and sleet are in play from southern New York State through northern New England. This system is forecast to deliver up to a foot of snow for mountain areas and significant rain totals for the coastal areas. Highs from the mid teens to the mid 40's.

Things stay quiet and chilly today, minus a few snow showers for the Appalachians. This break could be short lived, as the systems in the West make their way East. Highs from the single digits in the north to the mid 50's further south.

All the action in the Pac Northwest presents real problems today as warmer temps and heavy rain (combined with melting snow) put the potential for flooding in lower elevations on center stage. There is also the potental for avalanche warnings in the Cascades and the Olympic Mountains, so call ahead for road and resort conditions. This system is also set to bring heavy mountain snow to Utah, Colorado, Idaho, Wyoming and Montana, along with the potential for high winds for parts of the northern Rockies. Temps from the mid teens in the mountains to the low 60's at the coast.
