[R600R, Tignes] is hosting the second edition of the new World Freeride ski and snowboarding circuit, the Freeride World Tour, this winter. The best extreme skiers and snowboarders will compete against one another March 7 to 14, 2009.

Prize money of $250,000 will be shared between the winners of each stage and each category. The 2009 FWT is also an elite competition for the 44 best male and female freeriders in the world (ski and snowboard). Participating freeriders will be judged on three criteria: choice of line, control and fluidity. Spectators can watch the incredible speeds of the freeriders as they jump off massive cliffs and hurtle down vertical slopes.

Tignes has very reliable snow record due to its high altitude. The resort is enjoying a very good start to the 2008-09 winter season; there was a reported 88cm of snow on its lower slopes (2100 metres) and 130cm on its upper slopes (3455 metres) Dec. 31.

Tignes is part of the large ski area of L'Espace Killy with its 300 kilometres of pistes connected by 97 lifts, including two high-speed underground trains. L'Espace Killy is also known for its impressive off-piste and has a snowpark with half pipe and boardercross.
