Everyone loves a good birthday party. This year, [R430R, Stratton Mountain] is turning the big 5-0, so they're kicking off fall foliage season right with a long and colorful celebration during Columbus Day Weekend, Oct. 8-10. Pack the kids, an overnight bag and the camera because this three-day fiesta is going to be packed with tons of picturesque views, delicious food and fun activities the whole family can enjoy.

Stratton's Columbus Day Weekend festivities will include a chili cookoff, beerfest, live music, fireworks and much more. Join in on group fitness events like the North Face Race to the Summit, or ride the gondola and snap iconic photos of the changing landscape as you climb southern Vermont's highest peak.

And what birthday celebration would be complete without some presents? It's true what they say that the best gifts are the ones that keep giving and that's exactly what Stratton has in mind for the 50th Anniversary. The mountain is planning to unwrap 300 new snow guns, two new trails and more fresh gear for the 2011/2012 season. Plus, right now Stratton is offering their best deal of the season on lodging. Book a getaway by October 28 and save up to 30%. Cause for celebration? We think so.
