Much needed rain visits the South, a rain/snow mix for most of the Northeast, more of the same for the upper Midwest and dry for most of the West. RC

Two to three inches of much needed rain is the forecast today for some of the Southern states and also could affect the snow situation in the mountains of West Virginia. If you're thinking ski in the region, probably best to call ahead.

Some of that rain in the South also makes its way into parts of the Northeast. With some cold air behind it, the rain will turn into snow as the day rolls on, possibly dropping a few inches through northern New York and parts of northern New England. Highs in the mid 30's.

Things quiet down a bit in the region today, with rain dominating most of the Ohio Valley and snow showers for Northern Minnesota, Northern Wisconsin and the UP of Michigan. Look for highs in the low to mid teens.

A pretty dry day in store for the region, with the only real chance for activity in the Oregon and Washington mountains, northern Idaho and western Montana in the form of a few showers. Keep the faith; a storm system is on the way for the weekend.
