[R422R, St. Anton am Arlberg] kicked off the start of the winter season with the Stanton Ski Open - the world's longest slalom race Nov. 29.

Locals and visitors both took part in the three-kilometre slalom with 140 gates and a 1000-metre vertical drop. Other events took place to celebrate the beginning of winter, such as technical workshops, ski demos, and the ski and snowboard test which allowed everyone to try out the latest designer gear for free.

St. Anton has many other events up its sleeve throughout the winter season, including a Christmas market, New Year's Eve celebrations with the ‘The Snow Must Go On' ski show and fireworks, the slopestyle ‘Kirschbaum Battle' contest Feb. 28, and the Intersport Spring Festival March 21-25.

Skiers and snowboarders to St. Anton have access to 85 lifts and mountain railways, 280 kilometres of prepared pistes, and a 40-kilometre network of cross-country trails., visitors can enjoy the illuminated toboggan run, ice rinks, curling rinks, indoor pool, sauna, and steam baths for a break from the slopes.

St. Anton kicked off the season with excellent on and off-piste snow cover. There was 5cm of fresh snow and 110cm at the top of the mountain Dec. 1. More snow is forecast for the coming weeks.
