Wisp is hoping that at least some brave souls are up to the challenge during the Cardboard Box Derby at their annual Beachin' Weekend to be held March 17th and 18th.
For the fourth year running, teams race their make-shift sleds down the Bear Claw Snow Tubing Park. Since all vessels are not guaranteed to make it down the course, design judging takes place beforehand at the base of the park.
Besides the material limitations, rules for the race are more suggestions than absolutes. Competitors are encouraged to use flags, decorations and paintings to adorn their conveyances and a push-off start by a non-racer is permitted.
There is no limit to how many people you attempt to shuttle down the run on your craft, but usually the race is of the more-the-merrier school of thought.
Also, Wisp asks that if your Derby racer disintegrates on the down trip, participants should collect any errant pieces to keep the course and mountain debris free.
Judging begins at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday the 17th and the race starts at 3 p.m. Pick up entry forms at the Ski & Ride School Desk on the lower level of the lodge.
