Traveling to New Mexico with baby in tow? You'll soon discover how difficult it is to enjoy your winter vacation without spending serious bucks on child care. The [R901R, Enchanted Forest] cross-country ski area three miles east of Red River, however, has a suggestion.

Rent a pulk. The child sled or "pulk" rents by the day, afternoon, or hour so when your little one is done experiencing his new wonderland you can bail out for a steamed milk and relax together by the fire. Pulks are easy to pull and can hold plenty of gear and kids. Naps are not mandatory, but often happen. Price is $15 all day, $10 afternoon, or $3.50 per hour. Reservations are recommended.

The Enchanted Forest is a sweet spot for your four-footed baby as well. The 5k of trails and smooth-grooming makes for easier skiing and opens to both skiers and snowshoers to enjoy the day with their pet pals.

Doggie waste bags are provided and are expected to be used along the trail system. Leashes are required in the parking area and dogs must be in at least within voice command range on the dog trails. If your dog cannot "play nice" under voice command, then a leash will be required.

Dog trails are provided as a service of the Enchanted Forest for guests who want to ski or snowshoe with their dogs. Just be sure to respect the posted rules for the use of the dog trail system for the continued enjoyment of all guests. FYI: No, you are not required to have a dog to use trails.
