Now is the time to purchase a [R450R, Swiss Valley] season pass. Prices will be going up next month, and if you're a first time skiing parent, the resort has a great deal for you.

Parents who have never had a Swiss Valley season pass are eligible for a $43 pass for themselves when purchasing one for their child. Individual passes, regardless of age, are $269 through September, and will rise to $329 in October. Through the rest of the month, a season pass for a family of two is $419, a family of three is $569, and a family of four is $719.

Parents that are eligible for the $43 season pass are also eligible to add rental equipment for the season at the same price.

Wondering what's up with all the $43 prices? It honors the 43 years the area has been in business serving lower Michigan and Indiana snowsports enthusiasts.

A Swiss Valley season pass includes perks off the mountain as well, including discounted lift tickets at Caberfae Peaks, Crystal Mountain and Shanty Creek in Michigan; Chestnut Mountain in Illinois; Wilmot Mountain in Wisconsin; and Holiday Valley in New York. Just present your season pass when visiting the other areas. A season pass also allows you to bring a friend skiing with free lift ticket and rental equipment once anytime during the season and once after Feb. 12, 2012.

As the ski area has matured and grown, so has its reputation as the place to come if you're a novice skier or snowboarder. A large staff of 70-some instructors will provide over 10,000 lessons per season. The ski area specializes in school groups.
