Skiers seeking to hit the slopes at Farellones, the ski center near Santiago that encompasses Valle Nevado, La Parva and El Colorado resorts, typically lodge in the all-inclusive Valle Nevado and buy an interconnect ticket to check out the other two. But, you might be too late for Valle if you've waited until now – most of July and even certain dates in August are completely full. It pays to look into the alternatives around Farallones. You won't find 5-star lodging with turn-down service, but you will find clean and comfortable accommodations at the following properties. El Colorado, a modest resort sandwiched between La Parva and Valle Nevado, offers ski in/ski out apartments and cabins with kitchenettes at their base, with space for 2 to 6 people (buy supplies in Santiago). Apartments for 4 people run $208 to $356 per person for 2 nights, and cabins are a bargain at $198 to $236 per person for two nights, based on 2 adults. Rates include lodging, breakfast and dinner in their cozy onsite restaurant/lounge. Prices do NOT include tickets, and skiers are given the option of skiing La Parva, El Colorado, or buying an interconnect ticket to ski Valle Nevado. There is a minimum stay of two nights, except for last-minute reservations, and 7-night stays receive free transportation from the airport or Santiago. While El Colorado does not have the prestige of Valle, there is a kid-friendly tubing center and a few restaurants and pubs nearby. Check out their website at, or call (011-562) 245-3401. The second option is the Hotel Posada Farallones, located at the entrance to Farellones, about a 10-minute drive to El Colorado and La Parva. The low-slung, log-cabin-like hotel has rooms for 2 to 7 people that are ultra clean and well-maintained, and a hot tub, restaurant and lounge, and truly friendly service. Nightly rates run from $81 to $134 per person, based on double occupancy, and include breakfast and dinner, and transportation to and from the resorts. Rates do NOT include lift tickets.
