A record attempt on Australia's Biggest Ever Flare Run is being made in Thredbo on July 30 to both honour the memory of those who lost their lives in the Thredbo landslide a decade ago and commemorate the resort's fiftieth birthday. A thousand riders will ski and board down the 5.9km Supertrail, flares in hand to break the current record set on July 30 in 1998, also in Thredbo. There's still time to sign up to be part of the flare run or simply watch the moving light display from the village below as the flares wind down the hill. Visit the Thredbo website for details www.thredbo.com.au Thredbo first opened its doors on a few tiny chalets and a rope tow in 1957. Fifty years on, it's home to 480 hectares of skiable terrain and Australia's longest ski run.
