Two Alberta Resorts Open; One Closes
Two Canadian Rockies resorts plan to open this week, conditions permitting. Sunshine Village outside Banff is aiming for opening Thursday, Nov. 8. Lake Louise Mountain Resort plans to open the following day on Nov. 9. The downhill course may hold the best skiing with the upcoming World Cup later this month. Snowmaking concentrates early season from Glacier Top through Bald Eagle down Wiwaxy to the Base Area. Call 403-522-3555 for Lake Louise and 403-277-SNOW for Sunshine's information. Meanwhile, the axe came down on Fortress Mountain Resort. The Province of Alberta canceled five of the leases held by the ski hill's operator Banff Rail Company and closed the resort indefinitely.
