The principality has had little natural snow this season and the skies are clear with temperatures fluctuating a few degrees above and below freezing. The extensive snowmaking systems are working when they can but slope usage and the periods above freezing has lessened cover slightly to a best of 20cm (eight inches) of mostly machine made snow at the largest resort, Grandvalira, where 60km (37 miles) of runs – about a third of the total.
The picture is slightly better in the Vallnord area where slope depths are up to 40cm (16 inches) and up to half of the slopes are open. There are no immediate forecasts of snow likely to arrive this week.
