Argentine Resorts Finally See Snow

Most Argentine resorts are confident they'll have enough snow to open next week, June 23 – but resorts have their snowmaking equipment cranked up just in case. Argentine resorts have fared only slightly better than Chilean resorts, with Chapelco and Bariloche receiving more than 40cm of snow this weekend and more snow predicted for this week – but it is the first substantial snowfall Argentine resorts have received and coverage is still thin. Las Leñas is expecting snow tomorrow and Wednesday, but is waiting until after the storm to decide whether it has enough snow to open.
Much of Argentina has suffered a severe cold snap, with Buenos Aires shrouded in dense fog that is highly unusual for the capital city. Visiting skiers and snowboarders to Argentina should take note that this fog, combined with striking airport personnel and a broken radar system, is creating chaos and long delays the Buenos Aires airport Ezeiza, with reported incidents of theft from suitcases – so lock your gear well.
