Born to Luge at Mt. Hood
The Verizon Luge Challenge, a six-resort tour that features instruction and demonstrations by U.S. luge athletes and coaches, is coming to Mt. Hood Skibowl March 17-18. Interested parties age 10 and older can learn the sport of luge - in which a person lies on a sled in a supine position and barrels feet-first down an icy track - on a specially-designed course.
And then when they get the hang of it, the newbies compete in a timed event with prizes – ranging from digital cameras to iPods to Xboxes to sportswear - awarded to the top three finishers in each age and gender category. The Luge Challenge is a free family-oriented event that lets participants experience "the fastest sport on ice."
