Visitors to have chosen [R801R, Canaan Valley], W.Va., as their "Favorite Overall Resort" in the Mid Atlantic Region. The ski resort with the top average score (on a scale of 1 to 5) in each category, and a minimum number of entries, receives the award. Visitors then ranked them in five categories: Overall Favorite, Best Nightlife, Most Family-Friendly, Best Downhill Terrain, and Best Terrain Park.

"User-generated content is a very powerful and effective way Web visitors have to communicate with each other," said Mountain News Global Managing Director Chad Dyer. "Skiers and snowboarders are relying on the word of their peers when they make resort choices."

Here are just a few samples of what OTS visitors wrote about Canaan Valley: "Once again this little gem of a resort delivered more than we expected. You can't go wrong with this gem. Loved it!" Another visitor wrote: "The whole experience was a lot of fun from the unexpected great conditions to the lack of any wait at the lifts or anywhere else (e.g., lunch, rentals, parking, etc.). Canaan is a true getaway."

Still another said: "It's not too busy and the lift lines are very short. Big bang for your buck. This, by far, is a great place to get away and ski. I love the fact that it is still a secret to most and the lifts and slopes feel like they're never full."

The mountain at Canaan Valley Resort overlooks the southern Canaan Valley, the upland vale shared with Timberline Ski Resort. Cabins and condos are located throughout. Dozens of specialty shops and gourmet restaurants supplement the skiing and snowboarding. There are 91 acres of skiable terrain, serviced by four lifts.
