The ski resort with the top average score (on a scale of 1 to 5) in each category, and a minimum number of entries, receives the award. Visitors then ranked them in five categories: Overall Favorite, Best Nightlife, Most Family-Friendly, Best Downhill Terrain, and Best Terrain Park.

"User-generated content is a very powerful and effective way Web visitors have to communicate with each other," said Mountain News Global Managing Director Chad Dyer. "Skiers and snowboarders are relying on the word of their peers when they make resort choices."

Here is a sampling of what OTS visitors wrote about Heavenly: "The nightlife is nice, just go down the Gondola and you're right in the middle of South Lake Tahoe. This is the best nightlife I have ever encountered in a ski town due to the casinos at Stateline (base of the gondola)."

Another visitor wrote: "South Lake Tahoe is great with plenty to do and see, eat, etc. Lots of aprés ski options in South Lake and Stateline. Where else can you ski/ride all day, then step off a gondola, walk a block, and sit down to a fine dinner, first class entertainment and a lively game of Texas Hold'em all in one day?"

The views of Lake Tahoe and the Sierra mountain range are magnificent from Heavenly. The snowfall tops 20 feet virtually every year and there are more than 4,800 skiable acres. This resort spans two states (California and Nevada).
