[R211R, Le Massif de Charlevoix] is among the big winners from a surprise snowstorm that has dropped 3 feet of snow on the sprawling resort an hour east of Quebec City, overlooking the St. Lawrence River.

Snow in places, rain widely across southern parts of the Northeast Saturday, March 5, into Sunday, then high winds Sunday into Monday which led to wind holds on some lift operations. It was, in other words, a wild and stormy few days in the Northeast.

[R435R, Sugarbush] and [R198R, Killington], both in Vermont, have gotten steady snow the last 48 hours. Sugarbush reports more than 2 feet in the last 48 hours; Killington more than a foot.

[R436R, Sugarloaf] in Maine's Carrabasset Valley reports more than a foot.

[R78R, Bretton Woods] in New Hampshire reports a fresh foot in the last two days.

[R497R, Whiteface] in New York State's Adirondack Mountains reports more than 2 feet of snow in the past 36 hours.

Ski areas in Central New England got a day and half of steady rain before temps plummeted again into the teens overnight Monday, March 7, stopping the melt and allowing groomers to get back out on the trails and work on skiing and rising surfaces.

[R488R, Wachusett Mountain Ski Area] in Central Massachusetts, for example, closed early on Sunday, March 6, because of serious soaking rains, and stayed closed until the sun reappeared at noon Monday, March 7.

[R430R, Stratton Mountain Resort] with its more northerly location in Vermont's Green Mountains, reports 4 inches of fresh snow, and a day of recovery today in the wake of widely varied precipitation and temperatures the past 48 hours.

Stratton's snow report states, "March certainly came in like a lion and today we’ll see more lamb-like weather. We've experienced all kinds of precipitation here over the last 24-48 hours and expect Mountain and Lift operations to be affected. Ski patrol will be opening and closing trails per their discretion throughout the day including our natural trails and bump trails like Beardown and Lower Spruce."

The U.S. Open Snowboarding Championships are under way at Stratton this week, and are not expected to be affected.
