Bellingham, Washington-based photographer Grant Gunderson took home the Best in Show Grand Prize and a $4,000 check with his shot of Bryce Phillips making a powder turn under star-trailed skies above Little Cottonwood Canyon. "So many variables had to come together for it to work. I got the idea for this two years ago, and then it took me about a year to figure out the technicalities of how to make it work, and then another year to get the right combination of conditions," said Gunderson. Hoots and hollers prevailed as competing athletes and photographers viewed a week's worth of action during a 15-minute slideshow of the event. Ski Press Magazine, as Ski Salt Lake's media partner in the Shootout, will feature the winning images in their March 2009 issue. Video slideshows of the winning images, video interviews with the photographers, and a compilation video of the entire week will be found at ski-saltlake.com.
