Serre Chevalier Plans Big Expansion
Recently acquired by the Compagnie des Alpes (CDA), the world's leading ski resort operator and the team behind many of the best known resorts in the French Alps, substantial investment is planned towards the region's ski infrastructure with considerable growth predicted to follow.
Serre Chevalier is an all-year resort and ideal for property investment, with 300 days of sunshine a year. It is the fourth largest ski area in France with altitude skiing up to 2930m. The region's 13 towns and villages, which include Briançon – the highest city in the Alps – give access to 250km (155 miles) of dramatic north facing pistes, many tree lined, providing perfect skiing for all abilities. Challenging off-piste opportunities are ideal for expert and advanced skiers. Boarders will not tire of the extensive natural terrain and Terrain Parks, and the 35km of cross country tracks running along the valley are excellent for non-skiers.
"Over the last two years 20m Euros have been invested in new chairlifts, remodelled slopes, and expansion of snow cannon cover," says Jane Hartley, Managing Director, Erna Low Travel, a British firm selling property in the resort (ernalow.co.uk). "A further 40m Euro investment is planned over the next four years to extend these improvements for the benefit of skiers and boarders. Serre Chevalier is going to take off; it's no longer a secret."
