[R277R, Mt. La Crosse], often referred to as a miniature version of Vermont's famed Stowe, offers a variety of weekly specials to help keep skiing and snowboarding affordable for area residents.

Tuesday is for the ladies. All women, from 10 a.m.-4 p.m., can purchase a lift ticket for $18 and get $5 off rentals, if they need equipment. Three friends that are up for a lesson can schedule a group lesson for just $6 each. The last Tuesday of the month features a lesson and lunch for $7.

Thursday night lift tickets are $13 from 4 to 9 p.m. for everyone.

Saturday nights are family nights from 4 to 9 p.m. The first parent pays $35 for a lift ticket, which includes a free ski rental. The spouse and children pay just $6 each for a lift ticket and $6 each for ski rental. Snowboard rental is $12. A group lesson - minimum of three people - is available from 4 to 5 p.m. for $6 per person. Reservations are requested for the lessons.

Sundays are for church groups when they can schedule time slots from 1 to 6 p.m., 2 to 7 p.m., or 4 to 9 p.m. for their time. The package costs $22 per person, which includes lift ticket, ski rentals and a hot dog dinner. The cost is $32 for snowboard packages. Beginner lessons are also included for ages 10+ at scheduled times.

An adult daily lift ticket is $46 this season, and a junior (6-17) is $43.

Perched atop a rugged, rock-bound bluff the ski area offers a 516-foot vertical drop with 18 slopes and trails, terrain park, three chairlifts and a surface tow. It's big time skiing and riding for the Heartland.

Runs, cut through rocky, wooded bluffs over sheer headwalls and down narrow chutes, provide the intimate feel of a mini-Stowe; probably not by accident. The original owner, Ted Motschman, who first opened the area in 1959, was from the Vermont area. New owners have carried on the tradition in fine fashion.
