Snow-starved New York State Bears Up
2nd January 2007 | By Bob Niedt
Resorts in this article: Gore Mountain, Hunter Mountain, Windham Mountain, Whiteface Mountain Resort
A New Year's Weekend last-minute (sorta) dump gave the Olympics sisters, Whiteface and Gore mountains in the Adirondacks, enough to keep trail openings firmly in the double digits (though at 26 trails at Whiteface and 18 at Gore, that's far from capacity).
In southeastern New York, Hunter Mountain is getting by with nearly two dozen trails and Windham blew into the new year with 16. In Western New York, Bristol Mountain and Holiday Valley are running below 20 trails and in Central New York, it's been single numbers and little or no night riding. Dire stuff? You betcha, but people, it's still early.
