Try something new this year, and spend your holiday at one of Colorado's Gem resorts. These smaller resorts may not receive the hype that Vail or Aspen get, but the experience is sure to be satisfying. The quaint feel of the Gem resorts offer a festive aura you could only hope to treat your family or special loved one to.

[R20R, Arapahoe Basin] will host its first New Year's Eve dinner at Black Mountain Lodge. Diners ride the new Black Mountain Express chairlift to the Lodge. Enjoy cocktails and light hors d'oeuvres followed by a surf-and-turf dinner, big band music, and dancing. Ring in the New Year with a Champagne toast while taking in views of the Continental Divide. After dinner guests chose to either snowshoe down or ride the chairlift back to the base area. Dinner is held from 7:30 p.m. to 10 p.m., and costs $89 per person including gratuity, and cash bar.

[R143R, Eldora Mountain] is offering the Boulder Ski Escape program. The program includes lodging in Boulder paired with a lift ticket to Eldora Mountain Resort for $67.50. Eldora offers extensive cross-country skiing and snowshoeing in addition to Alpine skiing.

[R329R, Powderhorn's] holiday deal, the Stay & Play Package, includes a night's stay for two, lift tickets for two, and dinner for two for $209. Santa will visit Powderhorn Dec. 18. Children have the opportunity to enjoy breakfast with St. Nick at the Sunset Grill, and then ski with him throughout the day. A rail Jam, torchlight parade, and fireworks will take place New Year's Eve. Powderhorn's top skiers and riders will compete on a special feature adjacent to the Base Lodge followed by the parade and fireworks to culminate the night.

[R1435R, Silverton Mountain] will be open on Christmas Day for the first time in eight years. The resort is normally open Thursday through Sunday, but will be open Monday, Dec. 20 as well.

Celebrate the Christmas season at [R365R, SolVista] at Granby Ranch with an evening of night skiing and tubing under holiday lights and decorations Dec. 26-30 from 5 to 8 p.m. Santa will visit Christmas Eve, followed by holiday music, and a non-denominational church service at Base Camp Lodge. Fireworks over Granby Ranch at dusk on New Year's Eve will conclude the weeklong holiday celebration.

Santa will stop over at [R296R, Wolf Creek Ski Area] Dec. 24 and 25 to give kids the opportunity tell him what they'd like for Christmas.
